Graham County DOES NOT set or receive any portion of the fees listed above.

LOCKED DROP OFF BOX: located on the side entrance wall under the red awning (the side where the KIN
coffee shop is located.) Our lock box is under camera surveillance for secure drop

Tax (mil) rate is set each year by the County Commissioners
Tax bills are mailed July 1 each year
Tax bills due date September 1
Taxes must be paid by January 5th to avoid penalty, interest or attachments

Interest & penalties:
  2% interest begins on January 6th
  After January, interest accrues at .75% per month until bill is paid in full.
2nd real estate property tax notices sent out February each year

Advertisement of Delinquent:
Delinquent taxes are published in the Graham Star in April of each year.
These advertisements listed will have advertising fees added to each bill after listed in the paper.
Please call and verify the amount due before making a payment as it will be different than that listed.

Enforced collection can begin ANYTIME after January 5th
  Garnishment of wages'
  Attachment of bank accounts
  NC Debt setoff income tax returns/ NC lottery winnings
  Levy rents/ or other money due to you.   Foreclosure

ESCROW: If you have an Escrow/Mortgage account the tax bill will be mailed to the home owner and an
electronic file will be sent to the escrow company.
To ensure payment is made please forward a copy of the bill to your mortgage company.

Partial payments & prepayments can be made, we just ask that the taxpayer have the parcel number or
account number they want it pay on noted on checks for easy reference and correct application.
These payments can be made as often as the taxpayer would like to help make paying easier and more
affordable on a budget.

ELEDERLY / 100% DISABLED/ VETERANS EXEMPTION:
FORMS ARE AVAILABLE TO BE PICKED UP OR EMAILED FROM THE TAX ASSESSOR'S OFFICE {828) 479-
7963 OR THE TAX COLLECTOR'S OFFICE. THESES FORMS MUST BE RETURNED FILLED OUT TO THE TAX
ASSESSORS OFFICE NO LATER THAN JUNE 1st.

House boat: sticker fee is $5.00, must provide a copy of the pump out permit at time of payment to
receiving sticker.

Returned checks: have a $25.00 charge fee or 10% whichever is greater.
